Has Cell Phone Use Increased Rate Of Brain Cancer And Glioma?

The International Agency for Research on Cancer, an arm of the World Health Organization, made headlines by classifying cell phones as possibly carcinogenic to humans, based on an increased risk for glioma (a type of brain tumor).

The IARC used the results of two studies, one of which included a few thousand Swedish adults, to make its conclusion.

Given this scientific fact what surprised me, in light of the IARC's widely reported news release last year, was the understated play given to a study published last week in the British Medical Journal (see abstract) on cell phones and glioma.

The graphs below clearly show an increase in the Rate of glioma (per 100,000 people/year)as well as increase in mobile phone subscriptions per year in the U.S.:

This graph shows the rate of glioma increase per 100,000 people per year:

The graph on the right shows the mobile phone subscription per capita from 1990 to 2010

Cell phones are a potential danger to your health because of the electromagnetic radiation (EMR) that they emit. Use caution when using products which emit EMR including cordless phones and wireless routers.
